Successful participation at AUTOMECHANIKA 2008

GKN Industrial & Distribution Services earned recognition at this year’s Automechanika for “green” engagement, parts supply and services.

“Green Manufacturing”, the environmental benefits of the remanufacturing process of used CV driveshafts for the repair and exchange business has been one of IDS’s main subjects at this year’s “Automechanika”. The leading international trade fair for the automotive industry took place from 16th to 21st September in Frankfurt/Germany.
Automechanika set records this year with more than 166,000 visitors from a total of 146 countries and 4,680 exhibitors from 80 countries. The share of international visitors has increased to some 50 percent including a growing number of visitor groups from Eastern Europe and Latin America. Shashi Shekar Shukla, Commercial Director IDS, comments: “We saw visitors from 146 countries and could establish contacts from all parts of the world, focussing on new contacts from Eastern Europe and the Emerging Markets. These are important markets for IDS’s future businesses and success”.
For European Markets in particular, environmental protection is the challenge for the future, innovativeness and solutions for sustainable mobility are the solutions.  Reason enough for the organisers of the fair to establish the “Green Directory”, leading visitors to the stands of a number of selected companies which contribute with products or services considerably to environmental protection. As one of only 23 exhibitors out of 4,680 GKN Industrial & Distribution Services succeeded in being included in the “Green Directory”. The jury was impressed by GKN’s remanufacturing process, especially the recycling of unusable grease and re-use it in the  remanufacturing process of driveshafts, thus saving raw material and avoid excessive waste.
At the exhibition IDS presented the new enlarged catalogue of CV driveshafts and joint and boot kits for the repair market offering the unmatched number of more than 2,000 individual parts for 40,000 car applications, including all major European and a  large number of Asian car models, also older ones.
A new security code developed by CLEPA for the independent spare parts market against copying was introduced at Automechanika. Besides other leading manufacturers from throughout Europe, such as Bosch, Conti Teves, Federal Mogul and the Schaeffler Group, GKN IDS has supported the initiative from the beginning.  During the fair the IDS colleagues demonstrated the use of this security bar code to interested parts dealers and workshops. Shashi Shukla comments the results of our participation at the show: “We enjoyed a fruitful week of numerous interesting contacts and discussions and could present our products and services to visitors in a satisfying way. Our international sales strategy will help us bridge the economic downturn in many countries, especially in the Emerging Markets.”
